Tracing his fingers over the napkin, he smiled, dialing her number into his iPhone. He was glad she’d written her name – he’d never gotten to ask during their conversation. Not that he couldn’t have asked around and figured it out, but this was easier.
“Yes? Hello?” she asked, her voice sparkling in his ear.
“Is this Miss Elizabeth Monticello?” he asked, toying with the edge of the napkin. “This is Ethan Davenport.”
“Oh. Mr. Davenport. How lovely to hear from you. How have you been?”
“Call me Ethan,” he said, tapping his pen against the desk. “And I’ve been thinking about making music.” A lot. He couldn’t stop thinking about how her making music, her legs wrapped around his waist as he made her sing.
“Oh? Is that so, Ethan?” she asked. His name was sultry across her lips and he wondered what she would sound like screaming it.
“Yes,” he nodded. “I have a bit of a proposition for you.”
“And what might that be?” she sang. “Were you thinking of doing that duet?”
“I was,” he confirmed lowly. “You see, I’m having a little industry party – producers, directors, casting agents – and I thought it might be mutually beneficial if we gave them a little entertainment.” He’d get to see her again and she could network a bit and perhaps find a job. Seemed like a fair enough trade.
“Oh.” She seemed taken by surprise, and he wasn’t sure if she was pleased or not. “Uhm.. Yeah. Sure. That sounds- I mean.. Yeah. Name the time and place.”
“It’s next weekend. Everything will be provided for you, don’t bother to pack. My limo will pick you up at your apartment,” he explained.
“Pack?” she asked. “I thought it was just a party.”
“In Malibu,” he said, smiling.
“Malibu? For how long?” she panicked. “Are you sure I don’t need anything? How am I getting there? Do I need to buy a ticket?”
“Relax. Everything is taken care of,” he promised, laughing softly. She probably wouldn’t believe him, but everything was. He was having a wardrobe made to her specifications, one of his guest rooms specially made up for her, the bathroom stocked with product. Anything else she needed, she could just ask and he’d have someone provide it for her. “You can stay as long as you like as a thank you for performing. And you’ll fly with me on my jet. Unless you’d prefer to travel another way, but I’ll cover the costs.”
“Oh, no. Of course I don’t need to travel another way. That sounds great,” she agreed.
“Excellent. So I’ll see you on Saturday?” he asked, energetically flicking his pen against his leg.
“I’ll see you Saturday, Ethan.”
