Having looked quickly in both directions, Terri Lee hurried across the Fulham Palace Road and walked swiftly in the direction of the Thames Wharf.

Although it was only March, it had turned out to be quite a warm day and she was fast beginning to wish she’d done as Marcus Shaw had suggested and taken a cab. He’d told her he’d pay for it, but not wanting to be indebted to him in any way, she’d taken the tube to Hammersmith and walked from there. Unfortunately, the restaurant was further from the station than she’d realised, and what had seemed a good idea at the time, seemed distinctly less good as she became increasingly hot and flustered.

When she turned the corner, she saw the back of a brick building on the opposite side of the road. Looking up at the wall, she read the name of the restaurant. This was it! Pulling a small mirror from her bag, she swiftly checked her appearance.

She still looked okay, she thought in relief, even though she had a faint glow on her cheeks. All she needed was a light touch of lipstick. She’d piled her hair on top of her head that morning and a few curls had escaped. But they framed her face so she decided to leave them there.

As soon as she’d applied a little more lipstick, she put the mirror away, crossed the road and walked down the side of the building.

Coming out into an open area, she saw the river wall ahead of her and an expanse of grass to her right. Turning sharply to the right, she went up to the glass doors that led into the building and started to pull them open. As she did so, her reflection was thrown back at her.

The skirt of her new deep-blue linen suit clung to her hips, showing off how slim she was and hinting at the length of her legs. The jacket hugged her tightly, the severity of its style being offset by a low cut neckline that suggested cleavage without being too revealing. The final touch—the pearl choker necklace she’d borrowed from Caroline—added a touch of real class, and went brilliantly with the cluster of pearls that Louise had lent her to hang from her ears.

She smiled to herself—she knew she looked more than just okay. Her look was a combination of sexy and classy, a look that not everyone could achieve, and it was a look that could make her money. Marcus Shaw would see that the moment he saw her again.

But if she did decide to join his agency, she’d do it on her own terms.

She felt a sudden rush of nervousness. Suppose he wasn’t there and everyone stared at her, sitting on her own. Suppose he was there, but hadn’t been serious when he spoke to her in that club all those months ago. He might just be planning to have a bit of fun with her, and knowing men, hoping to get her into bed for the price of a lunch.
