Chapter 8: Cage

Scott left and Amy’s muscles tensed. She was nervous to be left alone with him, but her smile hinted at a good kind of nervousness. Cage would’ve run his fingers along the outside of her arm to see how she looked away shyly, and then along her leg and see her gain confidence with his touch. He wanted to smell that sweet scent of hers and bring her head close to his, to press those beautiful and generous—

Concentrate!

Adrian was staring at the scene with his most serious gaze, and he wasn’t enjoying anything he saw. Cage didn’t care, he was there with Amy and they liked each other. Adrian had no say in it.

Adrian let out a low growl, undetectable to humans. Cage glared back at him and gestured at the door. His brother was too overprotective and he understood it, but he wasn’t going to change anything in his attitude towards Amy. She was too sweet to have any secondary intentions, and every part of her made his cock harden in anticipation of having her body in his hands.

Adrian finally left and Cage accompanied him to the door. Scott was waiting outside to have one of his brother-spirit chats. He congratulated Cage and told him that he couldn’t have found anyone better for him. Then he cheered Adrian up and told him that he’d end up finding someone too. Adrian wasn’t convinced and he pushed Scott away.

“She’ll break your heart,” Adrian warned Cage. “She’s human and she doesn’t understand loyalty or commitment. The wind will blow in another direction and she’ll leave you, and then we’ll have to get you back on your feet.”

“Such an optimistic man. Tsk. Tsk.” Scott never took Adrian seriously. For a second, it looked as though Adrian was finally going to shift and attack him.

“I’m getting to know her,” Cage said, “but I’ve exchanged e-mails with her and she’s amazing. She’s smart and incredibly sweet, and her body smells of arousal.”

“I know that,” Adrian said dryly. “The whole house stinks of aroused human female. But she hasn’t seen you like the animal you are. I bet she won’t find you as attractive once she sees your bear.”

“I think she’ll like you bear-y much.” Scott chuckled and ran away to get away from Adrian. He had it coming.

Cage returned back home, chuckling to himself. Scott always managed to cheer everyone up. It was a pity that he’d never had time to meet anyone while he was a pilot.

Adrian’s words echoed in Cage’s mind and he wondered if he was right. Amy hadn’t seen him as a bear, and she could be scared. Many girls were intimidated by the real thing; they expected pretty plush toys when they fantasized about shifters, but then they found out that they were large and imposing animals.

He couldn’t get to know her better without knowing if she’d run away when she saw his true self. If she had to leave, better do so before he formed an unbreakable bond with her, because then he’d never manage to be himself without her.
