The moment we’re down from the chairlift, Ellie is waiting for us. She hands out steaming cups of coffee and exchanges a look with her brother. “I’m so sorry about this. It doesn’t normally happen.”

I can’t help grinning. “I had fun.”

Something flickers across Ellie’s face. It’s more than just relief. She looks genuinely happy. She loops her arm through mine and says, “You can walk with me back to the lodge.”

I don’t argue with her because I happen to like her carrot cake and I’m still hoping she makes a really good cheesecake. It’s on the menu for tonight.

“Ben talks about you a lot,” I tell Ellie as we start the trek back to the resort. He told me all sorts of things about her on our tour through town. Seems all his best childhood memories somehow featured her.

“Don’t listen to him. To hear him talk, I’m a saint and I assure you I am nothing of the sort,” she huffs, her face getting red as we climb the mountain. She’s just as curvy and out of breath as me. I bet she’d be the type of woman who would eat ice cream during yoga videos too.

“I’ll second that assurance,” Jeb calls out. I didn’t realize he and Ben were so close behind us.

“You shut your mouth, Adler,” she tosses over her shoulder. “Don’t mind him. He’s worked here so long he’s forgotten who the boss is.”

“I love it when you’re the boss,” he answers, his voice dropping.

“Brother present,” Ben scowls.

I fight the urge to smile. The bickering between the three of them reminds me of how it is when I’m with Oliver and Anita.

They continue to tease each other and banter as we go into the lodge. I make Ben promise to give me a redo of the ski lesson when the lift is fixed.

“You’re brave. That’s sexy as hell.” He presses a kiss against my forehead and gives me a grin. “I have to go help Jeb with the lift, so the poor fool doesn’t electrocute himself fixing it.”

I watch him go before I turn toward Anita’s room. I promised her that I would tell her about the skiing lesson as soon as it was over. Knocking on the door, I push inside with a smile on my face.

But it quickly fades when I realize that Oliver has her pinned against the wall in just her bra and panties.

“Shit, I’m sorry,” I yelp the apology and leave the room as quickly as I can.

Maybe there really is something about this place. Something that makes you discover your soulmate.
