Jonas’ memory cleared at the sound of Finn’s voice.

“Surely you both know by now that we don’t do this for the money.”

Mouse and Cooper nodded along.

Yenna jumped down from the bar and sat next to Finn. “Sure, Finn, but this whole thing is becoming far more dangerous. We might have to leave London.” She looked all of them in the eyes, one at a time, landing on Jonas last. “All of us.”

Jonas cleared his throat and their attention moved to him. “Fact is, guys… I think at this point we make plans to leave, if this inspector gets any closer, that is.” He felt like all the air was sucked out of the room. “Yen is working to point him away from us, but we have to be realistic. Just in case.”

Finn stood dramatically. “I, for one, would follow you anywhere, Joe.”

Mouse stood sheepishly and gave him a curt nod. “Me, too.”

“What about Lily?” Yen voiced.

Mouse quirked a sheepish smile. “Lily would never let me back out on Jonas.”

Jonas swallowed a lump in his throat and Coop stood, raising an imaginary drink. “To death and thereafter!”

“Here, here!” Finn echoed.

“How about a real drink and I’ll toast,” Mouse said, but Yenna was already behind the bar filling glasses.

Boman spoke up from the back, smirking. “I’m not following anyone anywhere, but I have no roots and I’ve had the heat close enough to burn.” He gave a nonchalant gesture. “I’m still in.”

Jonas nodded his appreciation as Yen handed him a drink. When the others were all talking amongst themselves she clinked her glass to his.

“To death and thereafter,” she whispered.

Her smile left him weak in the knees.
