Greg Marshall trembled, anger threatening to overwhelm him. The words stared back from the page; scrawled, barely legible but entirely clear in their meaning and intent.

What drove a father to say such hideous things about a sick child? Greg understood the McDuffs may have received some bogus letters but his was so obviously genuine. Resentment snaked through his capillaries. The injustice of scum like them getting their paws on an unwarranted, unearned fortune while his poor, sweet boy was condemned by lack of funds to die in agony before his life even got going. It couldn't be right. It wasn't right.

He wouldn't take this from these animals. Brandon deserved more respect. Greg deserved more respect goddammit. Since his wife died in childbirth, Greg's every waking moment and most of his dreams were devoted to raising his son, caring for him, nursing him, soothing him. This was not happening. He would not be treated like this by anyone.

Greg wasn't interested in the McDuff's reputation, he'd be fighting back. It was just plain wrong. Sitting on a mountain of money, unwilling to help Brandon; an innocent. Well, they didn't know it yet but they'd be coughing up, and Brandon would be going to America for treatment.
