Chapter Five

“What the fuck do you mean she went crazy? She was fine when I left her.” Dallas didn’t care if his words were more of a snarl than was proper.

Griffon raised his brows. “You might want to take down your assholyness a notch or ten, brother. I’m not sure what transpired, only that she woke up in the middle of a nightmare, and nothing could get her calmed except a heavy dose of medication. Now, before you freak the fuck out, she’s asking for you. However, if you go in acting like the asshat you are right now, I’ll let the doctor know it’s not in the best interest of anyone to allow you to do so.”

Dallas turned away from his friend before he did something they’d both regret, like put his fist through his face. He’d definitely not get in to see Teagan if he punched Griff, or anyone for that matter. Once he was sure he had himself under a little more control, he faced the other man. “Alright, let’s go. And, before you ask, I’m chilled the fuck out.” Or at least as much as he could be until he made sure she was okay. He shouldn’t have left her.

With a nod, Griff led the way back to the infirmary where she was being held. Dallas’ hackles rose at the sight of Teagan laying so still on the bed, strapped down like she was some sort of criminal.

“Release her,” he growled to the nurse checking her vitals.

The woman was quite a bit older than Dallas’ own thirty, his words seeming to have no effect on her. “She was a danger to herself, gentlemen, almost ripping her IVs out last night and fighting anyone who came near her. Believe me, it’s for her own good.”

He looked at the small woman, then at the guard posted outside the door they’d had to pass. “So, you’re telling me, this little bit of fluff wreaked so much havoc, she not only has to be sedated, chained like a dog, but needs a guard to keep her in check?” Disbelief colored his words. “Do you have any clue what she has endured for the last month? Do any of you?” The last was roared, but he’d stopped caring about ten minutes ago.

Griffon put a restraining hand on his arm. “You know they’d never do anything if it wasn’t warranted, Boomer. You need to pull it together, or I’ll have to remove you.”

Dallas turned toward Griffon, challenge in every line of his body. “Griff, I love you like a brother. I’d die for you. But that woman, she’s special. Don’t ask me how, or why, because it doesn’t make sense, but in here.” He placed his palm over his heart. “I can’t stand to see her hurting.”

“I get that. Really, I do, but we can’t fuck the rules, and think to steamroll over those in charge of her. She’s a civilian, and if all goes as planned, she’s headed home today. Speaking of,” Griff looked at the clock, before continuing.
