It shouldn’t surprise me that he wants me. He’s wanted me from the moment we met. But something about seeing him so aroused, and the comment about the dress, makes me blush so hard. I’ve been on dates before, but not ones like this. I don’t think I’ve ever met somebody who looks at me the way Aramon does, and it’s overwhelming.

I take a step back from his comment, try to regain some measure of control over things while staying far, far away from the wine. I ask him about other worlds he’s seen and the places he’s been. Surprisingly, he has been to quite a few of the realms, as he calls them, and invites me to look at some of the books he brought back for Tulivan after his funeral tomorrow. For a moment, it doesn’t occur to me that he wants me and the women to attend, but when it does I’m so touched that I can’t do more than just nod at him.

We linger in the cave for several hours, talking about ourselves, until Aramon catches me yawning. “I have bored my mate,” he teases with a grin. “She has already heard too much about me.”

“Oh, no,” I start to explain, “I…” I realize with a soft laugh at myself that he was kidding. “I am so tired, sorry. It’s been a long day. This,” I glance fondly around the cave, my eyes settling on him, “was amazing.”

He grins at me, very pleased. “We will do it again,” he promises, getting to his feet and offering me a hand.

As soon as he offers, my heart soars.

We duck back under the waterfall, laughter echoing as I shriek at the sudden cold, and he guides me through the glittering expanse of Daevos. With that pale light from the glitter, it’s almost like being out on a moonlit night, looking around at all the stars. I’ve always wanted to be out here with someone, but I never imagined it like this.

He leads me back to the girls’ dwelling, stopping at the doorway to touch my face with his hand. “Did you enjoy yourself?” he asks, a soft smile on his face.

I nod, suddenly finding my throat a little dry. “Y-yes, it was...definitely the best date I’ve ever been on.”

His whole face lights up at this. “I am glad.” His hand slides down my neck, over my shoulder, and settles at my waist, pulling me in to him. With his other hand, he gently raises my chin, and gives me the sweetest, tenderest kiss I can imagine. My knees start to shake, forcing me to clutch at his shoulders to keep my balance.

After a moment, he pulls back, brushing my hair from my eyes. “I will see you tomorrow,” he promises, and I immediately feel the loss of warmth as he steps away from me.

“Sure,” I say, my voice as shaky as my knees. “Good night, Aramon.”

When I step inside, the girls are asleep, and I’m able to take a seat on one of the cushions and try to catch my breath.
