CHAPTER 8

JOSH SAT IN THE ALLEY and smoked his cigarette trying to calm himself down. He wasn’t entirely sure how this situation had gone so far beyond his control, but he wasn’t sure it mattered anymore. He heard the door open behind him, but didn’t turn around.

“Hey, Josh,” Joe said quietly. “You alright?”

Closing his eyes, Josh tried to push down the rage he felt hearing his boss’s voice. He knew what happened in the room when he left, and it was all he could do not to punch Joe in his face. He opened his eyes, took a long drag off his cigarette, and continued to stare into the field behind the club.

“Look, Josh,” Joe started as he sat down beside him. “You—”

“Shut. The. Fuck. Up.”

“Alright, that’s it.” Joe barked as he stood up and walked in front of Josh. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

Josh continued to smoke his cigarette and refused to look Joe in the face. He continued to gaze out into nothingness as if Joe wasn’t even there.

“I’m trying to be sympathetic here, dude. I get that you got the hots for this girl, and I get that you have said exactly fuck all to her about that or anything else going on in your life. That’s your fucking fault, man. You’re important to B&B, Brent wants you here, and you’re great at what you do. Don’t let wanting to get in this girl’s pants fuck it all up for you.”

“It’s not about sex!” Josh shouted at him.

“The fuck it’s not. Everything’s about sex, Josh. You’re so tied in a knot over that girl’s cunt you don’t know whether to shit or go sailing.”

“I’m in love with her, you piece of shit.” Josh spat as he stood up and aggressively stepped up on his boss. “I think I’ve loved that girl since she was 11 years old, and I first saw her. And I kept who I was away from her, and I fought every urge I had for her so she could have a normal life and not be with some fucked up kinkster. And then you came along and fucked this whole thing up, Joe!”

“Hey, Josh?”

“WHAT?”

“You brought her here. I didn’t ask you to.” Joe calmly pointed out.

Josh froze as the truth of what the big man was saying washed over him. He felt all his anger pour out of him like air from a deflated balloon. Joe was right, and Josh knew it. Whatever Josh told himself, he knew somewhere inside in a place that he didn’t want to admit that there was a part of him that hoped she would do it. He wanted to see her suspended from that swing chair with her arms and legs spread wide. He wanted to watch her face contort with fear, and then pleasure.

“Kid, you have no idea how much I sympathize with what you feel. But in less than an hour, we have people coming, including Brent, and you now have to see this through.
