Tim Bryant stretched out his hand and opened his eyes. He was alone.

“Jan!” He sat up and called again. “Jan, are you there?”

His voice echoed around the caravan. She'd gone. Damn the woman. He pulled on his clothes, wandered through to the little galley kitchen and put the kettle on. He still couldn't come to terms with the fact that she had killed Jo. That had never been part of the plan – or had it? Did he even know any more what the plan was? He had only agreed to come along because it had sounded like a bit of fun to scare the woman. Good God, he'd scared himself a couple of times too. That bull had been huge. When he had slashed it with the paw, he had thought for one split second that it was going to charge him, but luckily it had run off in the opposite direction. Breaking into the abattoir hadn't exactly been a run in the park either. But now things were getting out of hand. Murder? He'd never signed up for that. That copper had not believed him, he had recognised that look in his eyes. No, Jan had not only moved the goalposts she'd changed the whole bloody game. It was time for him to get off the pitch.
