“Me neither. But when my mother comes to visit, she insists I take her there. Why she can’t shop at home is beyond me.” Jude was still holding Chase’s hand and she gave it a gentle squeeze. “I guess you and I are alike in more than one way.”

Jude merged onto I-295 just past Freeport and she picked up speed. “There isn’t too much to see on Route One between here and Portland, so we’ll just take the highway.”

The last stretch of the trip was uneventful. Jude had to take her hand away when the traffic picked up. Chase missed the warmth and security and the flutter in her stomach from just touching Jude. Jude drove like she did everything else, fast and with sharp precision and before Chase knew it, they were in the parking lot of the offices of Jameson, Brady, Franklin and Crowe, Attorneys—at—Law. “I won’t be a second. I’ll leave the engine running though.” She jumped out of the car, pulled her briefcase out of the backseat and disappeared inside the building. Two minutes later, she got back in the car. She caught Chase’s surprised look and smiled. “I told you it wouldn’t take long. So what are you up for?”
