Chapter 13

Meanwhile, the temperature had just broken the eighties. Hakim and Chris sat silently in the backseat of the Chrysler 300 that Mac-9 had used to get away from the scene of the crime.

A few cars back, the Italians tailed behind. That was a safety precaution just in case the Haitians decided they wanted to plan a surprise attack.

Being that the mob bosses had given Todd full power over their heroin enterprise plus their carabinieri forces, he was able to give his family and friends the protection they needed to survive the Haitians.

Rush hour traffic was beginning to move again. Mac-9 drove the Chrysler down Capitol Hill. Instead of taking the back roads, he rode the main roads where he knew traffic would be. This way if the feds started their manhunt with the assistance of helicopters they would have a difficult time tracking the car.

Making mistakes has never been an option for Mac-9. Long before he and Money Mac had started running the streets together, he’d developed the skill of analyzing all situations during the heat of the moment. Hakim felt a little numb, but was still elated. He had not been looking forward to returning to Duluth, Georgia for whatever reason Mac-9 was taking him.

He and Chris both had so many questions that needed answers, but seeing Mac-9 focused on the mission at hand, they thought it best to remain humble and wait for the right time.

Mac-9 checked the rearview mirror, noticing the puzzled faces the two friends possessed. They reminded him so much of how he and his partner Money Mac grew up. Having each other’s back until the death of them was the code they lived by-hell even after death as far as Mac-9 was concerned.

The brief moment down memory lane made him smile. It was something he really needed in his life right now.

Up ahead there was a right turn coming. Mac-9 turned down the narrowed road which curved lazily through Decatur, Georgia’s suburbs.

Slowing down, he whipped the Chrysler 300 into a driveway belonging to a four-story mini-mansion. The Italians that had been following them pulled in behind them, parking in front of the garage.

Mac-9 killed the engine. A few seconds later a short, heavy-set mobster wearing a pin stripped suit came out the front door and waved for them to come in.

Mac-9 looked at Chris and Hakim and said, “Well fellas they ready fo’ us.”

“Who is ‘they’?” Chris had to ask because nothing was making any sense to him.

“You’ll see once we get inside.” Mac-9 said climbing out the car with the Glock 9 in his hand.

He knew they both felt actually the same way he himself felt when he was first introduced to the Italians, but being that Todd told him to keep his presence a secret, Mac-9 remained silent.

“Let’s just go inside bruh.” Hakim said and proceeded to get out the car.

“Fuck it…What do we got to lose? We came with them this far.” Chris said, climbing out the car on the opposite side of Hakim.
