Time didn't have a lot of meaning for me in this form, but it didn’t need to either. I just loved hanging out in the trees and feeling the soft breeze brush over my fur. I could hear other creatures walking through the woods, whether in human or shifter form I couldn't say. I probably could if I wanted to expend enough energy to focus, but it didn't matter.
Blake hadn't been exaggerating when he'd talked about the peaceful nature of his home. I understood how desperately my studious little wolf longed for solitude, but I was enjoying living among this new family of mine. I couldn't do anything about our living situation until our thirty days had passed and I knew if they would let us stay together. Blake was determined to remain positive and insisted they would. I wasn’t as certain, but if they did allow me to stay in this realm, then I had every plan of finding my mate a home of our own.
But not so far away that I couldn't come visit our pack and hang out in the trees to my heart's content. I turned my head, scanning the grass beneath me until I found my mate. My stocky gray wolf was sunning himself in a patch of sunlight. His white face was turned toward the sun, with his eyes closed to avoid the glare. His mouth was open just enough to let his tongue hang out from one side.
I watched as he rolled over onto his back with his paws curled against his chest. Now he looked entirely too relaxed, which made me want to work mischief. I smiled to myself as the image from a ninja movie I'd watched with Blake a few days ago flashed through my mind. Slowly, I moved along the branch, working one hand over the other until I was within striking distance—then I simply let go of the branch.
My sloth scream was perfect as I hurtled through the air and landed on my mate's soft, white, fluffy belly.
"Oomph! What the hell?"
"Don't be grumpy, little wolf. We were too far apart and I missed you."
Blake made a chuffing sound. "So you had to cannonball onto my gut?"
"I had no choice. I needed a soft landing, didn't I?"
Blake’s ear twitched right before he rolled over, trapping me beneath his chest as he began licking the top of my head. "You had your soft landing, but now I have an even softer pillow. What do you think about that, Sparky?"
I used my claws to gently scratch along his ribs, grinning proudly when he rolled off me.
"That tickled!" Blake huffed then pounced like a puppy to wrestle with me in the grass. When he got me pinned again, I burped in his face. My little wolf made a gagging noise and jumped backward. "Holy shit. Your breath smells like farts!"
If I could've laughed in this form, I would've been cracking up. "Haven't you heard that my animal can't fart? Its guts would explode if the gas was allowed to accumulate in the intestines.
