Everything was in place as far as Hendricks was concerned. He was there at the dock, waiting for the ship to come to a standstill. Once it did, it would be his job to oversee the storing of the containers. He looked over his shoulder, at the black 4x4 waiting in the shadows, the Unicorn’s henchmen inside. I can’t screw up, not on this one. There’s no telling what he might do. Or get them to do.

The procedure ran like clockwork. Once the containers were dropped in their allotted places, he handed over all the necessary paperwork to Giorgio and Ramon. “There you go! This should keep that miserable fucker of a boss of yours happy for a while. I’ve completed my part of the bargain.”

The taller of the two goons grinned, took the clipboard with the relevant paper attached and nodded. “Thanks. I’ll pass on your best wishes to the boss, after we’ve dealt with you.”

Ramon pounced on him from behind before he had the chance to mull over what had been said.

“Shit! Come on, guys, let me go. I’ve done my part. The trouble with your boss is that he ain’t never gonna be happy.”

“You wronged him, man. He don’t take kindly to folks messing him about.”

“Hey, come on. I’ve made up for that. He did a deal with me. I’ve carried out my end of the bargain.”

Giorgio shrugged and removed something from the inside pocket of his jacket. It glinted in the dusky night. “I’m sure he’ll appreciate you doing the right thing. What he won’t forgive is you doing the dirty on him in the first place.”

“All right. I’ll admit, I was testing the water. I was wrong to try and fool him. I’ve made up for my mistake, guys. Don’t do this. I have money. I’ll tell you where it is.”

“Not interested. Anyway, we’re aware of your stash and where it’s hidden. Your bird has already given us that information.”

Hendricks gulped. “What? You’ve been to my gaff and seen my missus?”

“Yep. We left her with a permanent smile in her throat.” Giorgio roared.

Hendricks fought hard to get out of Ramon’s grasp. He was stronger than any man he’d fallen out with in the past.

Harsh reality set in. He wasn’t getting out of this situation alive. He wriggled like bait on a fishing line. It was pointless. Giorgio approached, the large knife in front of him, and tore his shirt open.

Hendricks’ eyes widened, and he took a huge gulp of air into his lungs. “Don’t do this. I’m begging you. Give me another chance to prove myself to him. I was wrong. Let me continue to make up for my mistake. Don’t kill me, man. Have pity on me.”

“Yeah, we’ve got that all right. It’s over, mate. Go out with dignity.”

“I don’t want to go yet. We could make a good team, the three of us. What about it?”

Giorgio’s response was blunt and to the point as he inserted the knife into Hendricks’ gut. “Nah! We know who we prefer to deal with, and it ain’t you.
