“Baby, just pick a type of candy,” I growled against her ear as she examined all the options. She looked to thin after two heart breaking weeks of being away. There was more light to her eyes after yesterday and I had been assigned via Rhodes to ‘keep a fucking smile on her face all day.’

I, being the gentleman I am, accepted that challenge without a second thought. I loved nothing more than to spend time with her. While demon boy and Rhodes were brooding, Adyen frustrated, and Neo - well being Neo-ish, I had no issue showing her exactly how much I liked her. I didn’t try to hide how much it had hurt when she left but I also didn’t want to waste my time with her being upset.

Life was short. I wanted to experience it. Live it. Especially with Gray next to me.

She was a dynamite. A survivor. She pushed through the hard shit and kept going. Even now, her tight curvy body bounced with energy and her smile at me seemed to knock down some of my own defenses. I could feel eyes on us and it made me proud. I knew I couldn’t keep her to myself, but today - today I was her date.

“M&Ms or Snickers,” she asked sincerely her eyes swirling with lightning.

“Both,” I stated to the cashier as Gray made a humming sound of approval. I felt my entire body tense and my cock jerk. Did she even realize hot how she was? From her husky voice to sassy scowl.

I was happily surprised when she pulled my arm more comfortably over her shoulder. I knew that the clothing made her scars feel more hidden but it felt something akin to trust. We made our way to the line for the new movie that had just come out, the crowd filled with an assortment of ages. We rested our backs against the wall comfortably.

It was about thirty minutes later that my back tingled with warning. My eyes found Gray’s happy smile as an older woman came down the line, a deep scowl on her face. Specifically set on our hands intertwined. I grimaced because I knew what this was about. I had seen this woman before when I was out with Neo.

Once the woman was in front of us and coughing to get our attention, Gray slid her eyes to the problem at hand. Her smile fell and her eyes went a deep blue, nearly black. Maybe she could feel the tension as well?

“Do you need something?” Gray mused out loud her voice gone icy. When not directed toward myself, the voice had a hypnotic quality to it.

The scowling woman had pamphlets in her hand and shoved one toward Gray. I reached out to take it and the woman instantly drew back. Gray raised a single eyebrow.

“Our church is not open to your kind,” She stated in a raspy smoker's voice as Gray’s entire body tensed. That almost earned a chuckle because this was Denver and she 100% did not know what my kind was.
