The two men found the door at the back of the barn, as Dan described. They immediately began digging and scraping the dirt away, widening the door’s swing. Once done, they sat back.

“So how do we do this?” Roland whispered to Marcus. “Don’t relish catching anthrax.”

“Me either. I don’t have any plan other than to go in and see where everyone is. At least we don’t have civilians to deal with. We can kill everything that moves.”

“Let’s hope you’re right.”

“I doubt they would have bothered to take a hostage into the barn. That would just slow them down. The two in the house are probably all there are.”

“There’ll be some men inside the truck and some outside.”

Marcus gave his friend a wicked smile. “We start from the outside and work our way in.”

Roland returned the smile. “Shooting fish in a barrel.”

“Only more satisfying.”

They slowly pulled the door open, waiting until the sounds of construction increased. With the delays, it took a few more minutes to open it fully. Marcus slipped inside, with Roland following. Both large men moved silently. Once inside, they crouched behind the wall of an animal stall and observed the activity under the lights in the main, open area of the barn. Two men were painting the truck. There was a man on top, working with others inside where they could hear more banging. The truck was facing them, so they couldn’t see how many were on the inside, nor would they be able to see them when they got out.

With gestures and a few words whispered close to each other’s ears, the men planned their attack. Now they waited, listening for Dan’s shots.
