Chapter 1

Angela

“A hockey game? I don’t see how that’s going to cheer me up.”

Carol wasn’t deterred by her friend’s pessimism. “Have you ever even been to a hockey game, Angela?”

“No, I haven’t. Why would I want to go watch a bunch of men skate around chasing a little black thingy all across the ice?”

Carol sighed. “It’s called a puck, Angela. The little black thingy is called a puck.”

Angela shrugged. “I don’t care what it’s called. I’ve never liked sports, you know that.”

“But our seats are right behind the Boston Glaciers bench!”

“So what?”

Carol looked at Angela like she was crazy. “So what? Have you ever seen some of these guys?” Carol pulled out her iPhone and did a Google image search of hot hockey players. She handed the phone to Angela and told her to scroll.

Just to get her friend off her back Angela took the phone and scrolled down. When she reached the second guy she gasped. “Oh my! Is this guy on the Glaciers team?” She handed the phone back to Carol. Carol looked at the picture and frowned.

“Unfortunately no. That guy is Tom Kendrick and he plays for Montreal. He used to play for Boston, though. Here let me pull up this year’s Glaciers roster.”

Angela watched her friend type away on the phone and she shook her head. She knew Carol meant well with her constant prodding, but Angela wished that her friend could just understand that no matter how hard she tried, Angela wasn’t in the mood to be cheered up. Not yet, anyway.

It had only been three weeks since her boyfriend, Blake, dumped her and she still felt like crap about the whole situation. As far as Angela was concerned she was still in the grieving process and she didn’t see how a hockey game was going to help mend her broken heart.

“Here,” Carol said, handing Angela the phone. “We will be sitting right behind these guys tonight.”

“You will be sitting right behind them,” Angela replied, taking the phone. “I’ll be sitting at home watching Netflix.”

“Just look, okay?”

Angela scrolled through the photos. “This one’s cute,” she showed the phone to Carol and Carol nodded.

“That’s Jake Reid. He’s Canadian and one of the best players in the NHL.”

Angela had never met a Canadian guy, at least not that she was aware of. She held out her hand and motioned for the phone.

“Let me see a few more.”

Carol handed her the phone and Angela and continued to scroll. While she still didn’t see how a hockey game was going to cheer her up, she had to admit the guys were certainly hot, some of them anyway.
