I've never noticed before, but the ceiling tiles of the reception in the ED are different colors. Some are gray and some are white. I've always thought they were all white.

This has to be the most boring shift I've ever experienced in my life. There’s absolutely no one around. It’s unheard of. I've done all my paperwork, and now I’m just sitting at the desk, staring into space.

I wonder what Cameron’s doing now. He left Sydney with the rest of the band early this morning. We parted with a long and lingering kiss after spending the entire night in each other's arms. I have to say it’s the most fun I've had in bed with a man in a long time, probably ever, especially since we didn’t have sex.

“So what are you doing on your leave days then, Gracie?” I hear one of the nurses asking another of the doctors.

“It's my first-year anniversary with my boyfriend. We're going to go away. I’m not sure where yet. He's planned it all as a bit of a surprise, but he did tell me to pack my bikini.”

“That sounds so exciting.”

“It is.” Gracie smiles. “I can't believe we've been together a year, and we're already living with each other. He's so good to me. He texts me all the time and even leaves me little love notes lying around. I'm very lucky.”

“You sure are,” the nurse replies. “I don't think my boyfriend would ever think to leave me a note. He's pretty romantic, though. He's a doctor, so we both work odd hours and don't get to be with each other as much we want. We do make full use of the time we spend together and try to pack in as much as we can.”

Gracie nods in response to the nurse, then she turns her head toward me and smiles when I look at her directly. I’ve given up on my close observation of the ceiling tiles for now.

“What about you, Taya? What're you doing on your leave days?”

“The usual,” I reply. “I’ll probably catch a film. Eat some ice-cream. Clean the house, do the grocery shopping, and sleep. All the good things.”

“You really need to get a boyfriend.” Gracie raises an eyebrow at me. “We’ll try to find someone for you.”

I shake my head. “No, I'm fine as I am.”

“Or maybe you're just hoping a certain hot rock star will come back.” The nurse winks at me

“Oh, is that it?” Gracie teases. “I knew you were spending a lot of time with him. I thought it was because you were interested in his injury. I mean, you are obsessed with anything related to hands.”

“I am, but he was good to chat to as well.”

“You've got a crush on him.” Gracie laughs

“No, not a crush,” I reply. If only she knew where I slept last night.

I need to talk to Cameron about what I can share with people and ask him what we're going to say about our relationship, especially if my colleagues are going to start trying to set me up with other men.
