Oh. Great. Brandon was touching me. My first impulse was to say fuck off, but I reined it in. We were on a mission after all.

“I assume it’s not me you want to dance with,” I said with a tight smile.

“No offense,” Brandon said. His smile was as false as mine.

“None taken. But it’s not my decision,” I said looking at Danny. I dropped my hands off Danny’s shoulders even though all I wanted to do was ball them up and clock the guy. Sleaze; this asshole oozed sleaze.

“I’d love to,” Danny said, gifting Brandon with a smile the jerk did not deserve.

“You two have fun. I am going to get another drink,” I said, giving Danny a broad smile. “You want me to bring you back something, love?”

The endearment was all for Brandon’s benefit. To sell our cover, of course. Probably. Mostly.

“I’m fine, thanks,” Danny said, not picking up on my hostility. Luckily, my intended target had, judging by the smirk Brandon gave me as he took Danny’s hand.

I couldn’t lie to myself. I was jealous. One day on the island and my resolve not to get involved with Danny was crumbling like a sandcastle at high tide. Images of soapsuds running down his body in the shower flashed through my mind as I stalked to the bar.

Though I’d already consumed more alcohol in the last two hours than I normally did in a month, one more seemed like a fabulous idea. What was that rhyme about drinking? Beer before liquor, never sicker? Drunk quicker? Was champagne liquor?

Davis stood by the bar, a small scowl on his gorgeous face. He looked from me to the dance floor, and the line between his eyebrows deepened.

Whatever. The bartender hovered near me expectantly. “Uh. Give me a beer, please.”

“Any particular kind?”

“Whatever you like,” I said. As long as it had alcohol in it, I was good.

He came back with something as black and thick as motor oil with a thick layer of gold-tinged foam on top.

“Thanks?” Was beer supposed to look like that?

Davis’s head turned. “It’s Guinness.”

“Oh. Well, as long as it’s Guinness…” I rolled my eyes.

Danny’s laugh floated over the music to me. Brandon had a smug smile on his face and a hand on Danny’s ass.

“I hate that fucker,” I mumbled, mouth hidden behind the pint glass.

Davis chuckled and sauntered away. Asshat.

For the first time I regretting shelving the new coms I’d used for the Harlan gig. The microphone function had had its uses for me at least, but the way they had picked up all conversation around the guys had proven to be way too distracting, so we’d gone back to the ones that only picked up the wearer’s voice.

Tragically, that meant I couldn’t hear the bullshit Brandon was spewing, but Danny was coming in loud and clear and that was enough to piss me off.

Apparently Brandon, who knew Danny was here with his boyfriend, thought it was perfectly acceptable to flirt. And not playful flirting, either. No,
