CHAPTER ELEVEN

Detective LeFleur finally returned from his phone call and told us he had everything he needed from us. Luckily Jack wanted to discuss the press release with him, which gave me the opportunity to do my own investigating. I told the men I wanted to take a walk to clear my head, and they bought it. At least I think they did. Like my grandma used to say—"ask for forgiveness later."

My first task was to find Bobby and Michelle and talk to them. Their relationship seemed odd to me. Especially after Bobby had flirted with Chloe right in front of Michelle. Not to mention Michelle's remarks about Bobby after Phillip died. Maybe they had one of those open relationships, and I couldn't care less. It wasn't my place to judge, but I was curious about their friendship with Phillip and Josie.

I stopped at the concierge desk and flashed my very important Epic Cruise Line ID. That card had really come in handy over the last twenty-four hours. The sweet girl at the desk played right into my hands and without question gave me information on Bobby and Michelle's and Josie's rooms.

As the elevator climbed to the tenth floor, I rehearsed what I wanted to say to Bobby. I needed to be supportive, sympathetic, and careful with my words but still try to get as much information as I could. The doors opened, and I stepped out into the open hallway.

I moved slowly down the hall toward Bobby's room and stopped just before I reached it. That was when the doubts crept in. What was I doing? What if Bobby had murdered his two best friends? How stupid was I coming here alone to question him? I reviewed the different possibilities in my head and, despite my concerns, decided it was now or never.

I inhaled deeply and knocked on the door. My heart was pounding against the walls of my chest while I waited for someone to answer. After a few seconds, the door opened barely an inch. I could see through the crack that it wasn't Bobby. It was Michelle. I wondered if she'd forgiven him for his drunken state of the day before.

As soon as she saw it was me, she opened the door wider.

"Hi, Michelle. We met yesterday. I work for Epic Cruise Line." I pointed to my ID, which I'd conveniently clipped to my belt loop. I wasn't taking any chances.

"Oh, yes."

"Do you and Bobby have a minute to chat?"

Without answering, she stuck her head out of the door and looked up and down the hall.

"I'm by myself," I told her.

"Give me a second, okay?"

She closed the door, and I exhaled loudly. I assumed she was talking to Bobby, or maybe she was calling security on me? I considered making a run for it, but the door opened again a few seconds later.

"You can come in," she said, holding the door open for me.

I walked across the threshold. The room was the same layout as Kelsey's, with a grand seating room and the long hallway that led to a bedroom.
