Jacobi’s was officially the hottest lounge on the nightlife circuit in Houston. They’d only been open for two months and the reviews were raving about how the sophisticated atmosphere, artistic soul of the weekly musicians, eclectic cuisine and the overall feel of the environment made this spot the most sought out venue among single, professional, 21 and over citizens in the city. Since opening night, they had been turning people away left and right so as not to exceed the fire marshal’s maximum capacity mandate. Everyone wanted to get a look inside to see what had taken over two years of development to create. Jacobi Jacobs, himself, was ecstatic every time he stepped foot inside his establishment. It took his breath away to see what he and his business partner and long-term friend, Ashton Williams, had created. That was saying an awful lot, seeing as though nearly nothing ever mystified or astonished Jacobi. He was a man of reason and patience. He was by far the most serious twenty-something year old that most people had ever met; a trait that he inherited from his father. Jacobi’s was the only thing that the owner could think of, himself, that made him speechless at times. That was until he met Jewel.

Thinking of her made him shake his head as he made his way to the small conference room at the back of the lounge. Most thought it strange that he had included a conference room in the layout of the establishment. Every contractor that had tried to persuade him against it had been fired. Jacobi had a vision. He wanted his employees to be like family and he wanted his business to be ran like that of any reputable corporate entity. Like any solid family and any legit company, Jacobi was insistent upon having weekly meetings so that everyone was on the same page: Never any surprises. He wanted a place to bring in other companies that wanted to pitch ideas for their services or products. Most contractors had suggested that he just rely on his office for those types of things. Jacobi wasn’t one to back down when he wanted something. Standing in his conference room now, he was glad that he’d stuck to his guns. The staff appreciated the meals or snacks he provided as they sat in this room and worked together to come up with ideas that in turn were keeping the lounge hot and popping. If anything, Jacobi felt that keeping the staff happy and making sure they felt appreciated would ensure their loyalty and dedication to their work and to the business. Good things had happened in this room. But Jacobi wondered if today would be the day that an unpleasant thing would occur.

His thoughts were interrupted by a light tap on the door. He looked up from his seat at the large conference table that sat sixteen. Her beauty was radiant in any light. Jacobi felt his heart rate increase and could almost curse himself for feeling so irrationally giddy when in this woman’s presence.
