The Present . . .

I exhale. This particular day, I am missing him with a so much venom that I want to cry but my eyes are dry to realization that he is nowhere near. It has been two weeks since I laid in his arms and the loneliness was getting to me. Although, I needed a day to myself, I also wanted to be held and whispered sweet nothings into my ear as I watch the rain fall heavy onto the pavement and lawn. This was the first day of a new month and it was appropriate that rain showed itself.

Rain washes away the dirty things and make them clean, my mother use to say. What she failed to tell me that it also can make things grow, such as infatuations.

With the rain, my thoughts always fall to him. I look out my bay window at my roses that are now big and healthy with the passing years, wishing that I could drain my hurt like the puddles that drain away from my roses. Their petals stand defiant against the raindrops and I hold myself missing Tillman however, hating that he left me in pool of misery.

The clouds break and only with the halt of the rain does the memories of Tillman once again fade.
