The Williamson

Midnight, the witching hour. The hour of things that should not be, waking from their slumber and at the peak of their power. The Williamson felt at its most powerful between the hours of midnight and six in the morning. And now she has claimed her first victim of the night.

One down, three to go. The building shivered with pleasure as the first victim’s blood soaked into the floor bathing the building in a rush of endorphins. The building shook off the mantle of creaks and groans, feeling fresh and brand new again.

Now the building could feel itself in every nook and cranny, every nail, every brick, all at once. It could be everywhere and the three victims left would never feel her coming.

The others are too in shock to notice the blood of their friend being soaked up like a greedy sponge, like a straw in a milkshake eager to get up every last drop.

The body will be next, for no tiny bit must be wasted.

One of the meat suits crumples to the ground, being supported by one of the others as a clock far off in another part of the building chimes the last chime of the midnight hour. Humans are so fragile. It’s what the building has always loved about them, how she can reach through her walls and blink the life out of them like juicing citrus fruit. The carnage, the gore excites the building. This first kill of the night was a warm-up. A weak exertion of her abilities. The next kill will be worse, already the walls and boards and nails, the fixtures whisper through the nerve system of the hotel breathing suggestions, ideas from their origins. New ways to torture, to kill.

A blackened bit of wood, used as a ceiling beam in one of the suites crackles with life as it remembers the northern hotel it was pulled from after a fire ravaged it in 1895, a building a sadistic killer used as a playground. It relays the memories to the central nerve and the building purrs with pleasure. Oh, the ways she will kill. And this is only the beginning. Now that she feels alive again, she will lure more souls to their doom. This is her reawakening.
