So, I guess York and I were not actually going to talk about it. Because that little convo weâd had in my room had cleared up absolutely nothing for me.
I mean, if anything, I was even more confused now than ever.
Last week, Iâd never kissed a boy before, had no prospects of kissing one, and wasnât even thinking about kisses in general.
This week, it was the only thing on my mind, and the boy I was getting all the lip action from was York. I repeat, York.
It just felt so insane.
When he pulled into my drive the next morning to take me to school, I was once again a tense and rigid mess.
âHey,â he saidâthe same thing heâd said on Monday and Tuesday.
âHi,â I murmured quietly, repeating my own daily dialogue.
He put the Jeep in reverse and backed from the driveway.
Silence reigned between us.
Okay, I couldnât take this anymore.
I turned to him, lifting my eyebrows. âSo did you send Wes to the bookstore on Monday to apologize to me?â
York glanced over in surprise. âI didnât send him to the bookstore,â he hedged. âI just told him he needed to apologize, but I figured heâd do it at school. He actually went to see you at the bookstore, though? Wow.â
I nodded. âYep.â I didnât mention the part where Wes had failed to pay for his drink. I didnât need York to force another non-apology from him. âSo did he tell you he never messed with Aria while you two were dating?â
York straightened and glanced at me in surprise. âYeah. He did later Monday night, in fact. Was that because of you?â
I shrugged, still smugly happy Iâd gotten Yorkâs answer for him, concerning that question. âSo if he didnât tell you about that, then Iâm guessing he didnât tell you about what we overheard together while he was there, either.â
âNo.â York shook his head, seemingly confused. âSince I didnât even know he visited you at all. Whatâd you guys overhear?â
âI think my boss is having an affair with a married man,â I blurted, nodding eagerly and needing to talk to him about something, anything, just as long as it wasnât about me and himâ¦kissing.
He blinked in surprise and glanced over. âSay what?â
âI know! And get thisâ¦â
From there, I proceeded to tell him all about Kaylynnâs phone call, glad I had a topic to blather on about because one more day of a silent car ride with him to school wouldâve freaking killed me.
His eyes grew big as I spoke, which made me happier that I was actually entertaining him with my story, too.
âNo way,â he gasped at the end. âI never wouldâve pictured Kaylynn as the other-woman type. She seems so independent and self-assured, you know.â
I nodded because I totally agreed.
âI wonder who it is,â he murmured thoughtfully and lifted an eyebrow my way. âDid you hear her say a name?â
âNope. I had no idea she was seeing anyone. She acted as if nothing had happened when she came out of her office again.
