The meeting with Brody started promptly at eleven CST. I reserved the Infinity suite at the Langham Hotel in downtown Chicago. The living room was suitable for the meeting. The room was approximately five hundred square feet with a wall of windows that showcased the beautiful Chicago skyline. The seating was comfortable, and the living room came alive with the chandelier hanging a few feet above our heads.

Jill and Kristina were seated on the white tufted couch perpendicular to me. I stood and welcomed Brody as he walked in.

“Thanks for meeting with me on such short notice, Brody.” His presence was striking. He had a full head of brown hair and must have stood six-foot-two. He had a plump midsection, but his height made him look thinner. His smile was contagious, and I could see why everyone described him as charismatic.

He grinned, shook my hand, and sat facing me in one of the two single chairs in the room.

“No,” he said, “the pleasure is mine. I dropped everything to listen when I heard the great Xavier Baldwin wanted to talk.”

Damn, who is recruiting who here?

“I am flattered, Brody. Let me get straight to it. I bought a new studio in Coral Springs, Florida, but I need a GM with experience to take the station to number one in that market.” I started my sales speech, and Brody listened intently. He asked questions, and Jill answered every single one. I was impressed with what she prepared; I could tell he was too. Jill came ready with an NDA that Brody had to sign before she allowed him to read any information she had prepared.

“I am not going to lie,” Brody said, “I’m intrigued.” He flipped through a file Jill had prepared for him to review.

“Well, I would love to have you join Titan Media.” I closed the pitch and sat back as he mulled over the opportunity. He finally handed Jill the file back and leaned back in the chair.

“I sure wasn’t expecting this. I’ve had a lot of offers but nothing to this magnitude. Merging billboards and media under one umbrella? Now that is not an opportunity I get every day. How soon do you need an answer?”

“The position has been open for a few weeks now, and we need a strong leader to start phase two of the marketing strategy.”

“Okay, you need someone ASAP, got it. Let me discuss this with the family, and I will get back to you in a day or two.” He sounded conflicted.

I had a good feeling.

“If you’re free tonight, bring the family by for dinner,” I added.

“Really?” The broad smile on his face gave away his excitement.

“We can discuss salary if you like.” That caught his attention.

“I think we can stop by. My wife loves this hotel.” He looked around, and I could see the adoration in his eyes.

“Great, does eight sound good?”

“Yeah, eight is perfect,” Brody responded; he stood and acknowledged Jill and Kristina before shaking my hand and making a quick exit.
