T he world exploded a lot sooner than Liam or I had thought it would. By that weekend, posters were plastered throughout the city with Liam front and center. The story hit the national news by Monday, so poor Liam had to stay right on set, or he’d be mobbed.

By the time the concert happened, we’d be packed with reporters instead of the family atmosphere we normally had.

Dad was prepared, though. He’d upped the usual security, and we couldn’t go anywhere without supervision. That made washing windows really fun when I had a guy standing there waiting for someone to try to kidnap me.

We hadn’t seen each other since that night on the porch, and I started to wonder if maybe I was imagining things.

Dad found me sprawled out on the couch after another long, grueling day of sun and window washing fluid. “Hey, bug. You look a little tired.”

“I don’t want to leave this couch. Ever.” I rolled over enough to see him. “What’s up?”

“Can’t a dad just ask how things are?”

I raised an eyebrow. “Sure. Just not when we have the world sitting on our yard, waiting for whatever scoop they can get. Why are they here anyway?”

Dad scratched his beard. “It seems that someone saw you two together and they’re trying to find out more about the mystery girl.”

“What? We only went to the music store and then came home right after.” I wondered about Matthew, but he’d promised not to say anything.

“It’s okay. It was bound to get out sometime. And we were already prepared for something like this.” He hesitated. “That’s where the favor comes in. Part of our contract says that someone has to be with him to show him the town, and our staff is already busy with the paparazzi and other duties. It leaves you or Mindy. I don’t think he’d survive a day with her. Do you think it would be okay if you stick with him for the next little bit?”

I stared at him. “So, let me get this straight. Someone knows that Liam and I have been together and you’re trying to stop the reporters from finding out who the mystery girl is, so you’re going to have me go hide with him. That doesn’t make sense.”

Dad laughed. “It doesn’t when you put it like that. I talked to all of Liam’s managers and agents, and they agreed to have you be part of the movie. That way there’s an excuse for the two of you to be together.”

“Have you ever actually seen me act before?” I was terrible. I mean, I couldn’t even spell banana right in our third-grade play because I got so nervous.

“I have, and I still think you can do this. You’re not in front of a crowd. It’s you, Liam, and whoever else is in the scene. That’s it.”

I paced the floor, trying to decide if I could actually pull this off. “So, they’re just going to write me into the movie somewhere?”

“Actually, it works out just perfect.
