While I sat there waiting for the two-legged buffalo to come out of the bar, I asked myself why I wanted to kill this guy. Sure, it made me mad when he laughed at me after the buffalo kicked me and my shirt got ripped to shreds. But something made me determined to come back and take out some extreme form of revenge on him. What made me want to do that?

I turned it over and over in my brain, trying to figure it out. This guy was a bully, and I hated bullies. But why did I hate bullies so much?

Because they run roughshod over those who are weaker or in no position to put up resistance. They get their way by threats of violence, intimidation, or some other form of punishment.

Bison threatened to break my thumbs, but he didn’t threaten to kill me. That’s because, as a bully, he’s more interested in seeing me suffer. He’d rather see me humiliated. He’d rather see me bow down to him.

And that’s exactly the way the management of my former employer acted toward someone like me. I was a no-name grunt on the manufacturing floor for decades, and the top management never knew I existed. They were bullies because they kept the workforce in line with threats of termination, or pay cuts, or moving the facility to another country.

Most of the time it seemed they did those things simply because they enjoyed it. That’s why I hated them. They were bullies.

And the two-legged buffalo was a bully. He had to die. Painfully. Slowly, if possible.
