CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

When Plans Go Awry

Bleach studied the surveillance monitors in front of him, the chatter of static-ridden audio, which crackled out of his headphones was giving him a headache and sharpening his already volatile anger.

He had been following the Subject and Experiment #296 since the safe house, tailing them at a distance so as not to raise their suspicions. Following the trail of destruction and cleaning up any mess they left behind.

He smiled as he thought of Krishnov, already bound to the chair. A beaten, broken man.

"I'm still valuable to you. To your government. Please, don't kill me. I have children."

*Click*

"Krishnov, now is the time to die with dignity. Ask the Holy Father for forgiveness, if you're so inclined."

"WAIT! Wait! I know things! Please! You need me and my information!"

"Krishnov-"

"The man, who did this to me, he isn't normal. He isn't human. And the little girl... She's valuable to you. Your government could use her. She can see inside people's heads, tell you what they're thinking. Please, you have to believe me..."

"I believe you, Krishnov."

*BANG!*

It felt good to kill.

It had been a long time since he had been allowed to end another man's life, face to face. Eagle Vision's noose continued to tighten around him, restricting his movements and limiting his freedom to do as he pleased.

He scowled, discontent at the thought.

There had been a time when he would be given a mission and all that he was required to do was carry it out completely. The mission details were generally no more than a loose guideline, a simple statement of what was needed. The manner in which it was conducted was completely up to him. He could kill at his leisure without any authority to preside over him, dictating who and what he could do. Not anymore. Not with the General in command. He had become nothing more than a dog. No...Even as low as he had become, he was no dog…He was a wolf. An alpha male whose pack had been killed. Whose territory had been eaten up and the only way to survive was to obey a master or die.

Well… he would eat from the hand... for the time being. He would do as he was commanded… for now. He would sleep by his master’s side and share the warmth of the fire. But when the frozen tundra became visible once more and a chance to run free presented itself, there would be no whistle or delicacy enticing enough, to lure him back to his master.

Experiment #296 wasn't that different from himself. He, too, was a wolf. He too was an Alpha… or had been. But now? Now he was diseased, feral, rabid... a danger to the rest of the pack.

The thought of a confrontation between himself and Experiment #296 excited him. It would be a battle of titans. Two Alpha Males vying for total authority. He could taste the blood in his mouth already.

Bleach looked at the two men he shared the van with. They were soldiers, their bodies well-conditioned by rigorous training.
