Chapter 6

It was leaked before they even got a chance to announce it. Sara had told her mother about it and said she was confused about it herself.

“What’s the confusion?” her mother had asked her frankly as they sat in the living room listening to the patter of rain on the windows. She had decided to confide in her mother the very next day after Paul had left.

“We are world’s apart mother,” she had said with a helpless shrug. “He is not just a simple pastor for a country church with a few members. He is a televangelist and they are known internationally. I am a daycare teacher who lives in a tiny house in the country.”

“You are a beautiful, intelligent woman and where you live and what you do does not make you who you are,” her mother had told her firmly. “Nothing matters as long as you are in love with each other and you have the blessings of God.”

He had also told his mother and sister and they had drilled him about it and finally said they wanted to meet her officially.

The paper showed a picture of them coming from the restaurant they had gone to two nights ago and the fact that they were holding hands and smiling at each other could not be denied. The headlines read: ‘Dynamic and eligible televangelist Paul Munroe seen here with daycare teacher Sara Gregory!’ Could this be the love interest he was not ready to disclose?

It was shown above that of the women’s conference to be held next week in the church’s large auditorium. It was brought to his attention by his secretary. Sister Marjorie came into the office just as he was finishing up a phone call. The conference being held next week had become bigger than they had anticipated and they had to be making adjustments to the seating arrangements. “Yes Marjorie?” he said looking up at her as she just stood there.

She passed the papers silently. He opened it and looked at it, a frown on his forehead. “Damn!” he exclaimed not noticing the widening of the woman’s eyes. “Thanks. I will deal with it.”

He picked up the phone and called Sara’s cell phone and she answered it immediately. “I am sorry baby but we have a situation could you come to the office?”

He had called his mother and his sister and they told him that he was going to have to make a statement and lay to rest the rumors that were bound to be circulating.

Sara came into the office a little hesitantly. She had noticed all through the walk to his office that she had been getting strange looks from the people around and his secretary had looked at her and looked away swiftly. “What’s going on Paul?”

He came out from his desk and stood in front of her. “How ready are you to tell the world about us?” he asked her softly, holding her hands.

“We said we would wait a little bit, why?” she asked him puzzled.
