Chapter Seven

"Damn," I said as I finished my hair. No need for a glamour on it this morning, it had curled properly. "I forgot we have PD this morning."

I'd dressed all wrong for PD. "Is there a spell to actually change my clothes, not just glamour them different?" I asked. "I shouldn't have worn a dress and heels for PD."

"No time now," Tyler said as she tied her sneakers. "Let's go."

I took another second to grab a bag and stuff leggings and a tee into it, along with socks. Snatching up my sneakers from the bottom of my wardrobe, I ran after them. Halfway down the hall, I realized I'd left my regular backpack, so I had to double back.

The locker rooms for PD were just outside the gym. Peeking into the gym, I sighed. It looked like everyone was there. This was only my second PD class and I was pretty sure most of the school attended it. At least most of the freshmen. Scuttling into the locker room, I changed in record time and hopped into the hall on one foot while I tied my shoe.

Stopping just for a second before I darted into the gym, I gathered my wits and pooled magic in my hand. I was sweaty, and my hair had totally lost its luster. I was pretty sure I'd already sweated off the light layer of foundation I'd applied after watching a human beauty queen online. I needed a glamour.

Projecting what I'd like to look like into my magic, I moved my hands over my face and hair, set a bright smile on my face, and tried to slip quietly into the gym.

Brooks turned and smiled at me. I wanted to join him, Jayse, and Francis, or better yet, go hang out with Estelle and Tyler, but just then Madison noticed me. "Over here," she called. "We're working on running and sending spells accurately," she whispered as Tyler stood beside the teacher.

Kristi snorted. "Apparently that weirdo is really good at it and going to help us learn." She flipped her hair, a bit more violently than normal. "As if there's anything that freak can teach me."

Tyler heard her. The polite smile faded from her face, and her gaze moved from Coach Cates to us.

Standing slightly behind the Sparkles, I mouthed to her. "I'm so sorry." Tears pooled in my eyes. I wanted to run over and hug her and tell her she wasn't a freak at all. She was a great friend.

Narrowing her eyes on Kristi, she gritted her teeth and turned back to the teacher. I wanted to speak up and defend her, but chastising Kristi wouldn't fall in with our plans. Not that I was entirely sure what our plan was at this point. All I knew about it was that I had to befriend the Sparkles. We really hadn't gotten further than that.

And I wasn't convinced that I was going to be able to go through with it. There was no doubt
