Chapter 25

Laura stood in front of the bathroom mirror, standing on her toes to try and get a better look at herself in Riley’s navy bikini. She could only see from her waist up, and although her stomach was relatively flat, she still felt self-conscious. She left the bathroom and grabbed a black v neck t shirt from the closet and slipped it on over the bikini to make herself feel a little bit better.

When Riley suggested going for a late-night swim, she thought the only option would be for them to go skinny dipping. Her mind was really in the gutter, but then Riley offered to lend her a bikini, and what could Laura say?

She could already see Riley swimming towards her, pushing the water out of the way with her toned arms as she appeared from underneath the water in front of her, her body glistening in the light reflecting off the water.

Laura remembered the effect Riley had on her the other day, when she’d been swimming, but she’d taken Laura by surprise then. She thought she had the house to herself and there was Riley, elegantly coming out of the pool, almost in slow motion, with water droplets trickling down her body.

Laura took a deep breath as she stepped into her flip flops and went back downstairs. She tried not to have any expectations about tonight. She would love to fall into bed with Riley, but she had a point. What were they doing? Laura didn’t know, but what she did know was that she wanted Riley. Badly.

Riley was already in the water, and Laura tried not to be too disappointed that she’d missed the show. Riley’s glass of white wine was by the edge of the pool, beside the steps. She swam towards it, pushing her wet hair away from her face as she rested her forearms on the lip of the pool and took a sip of wine.

“It’s so refreshing,” Riley said as she looked up at her.

“The wine or the water?”

“Both. Come on in and see for yourself. I brought your whiskey out. It’s on the table,” Riley said, looking past her, and Laura turned to see two white towels neatly folded and her tumbler of whiskey.

“Thanks.” Laura took a sip, the liquor burning her throat on its way down. She lifted her top over her head, and she couldn’t miss the way Riley’s eyes raked over her. Riley didn’t even seem to care if she got caught, but Laura couldn’t meet her gaze. She turned her back to her instead and took another drink before making her way over to the pool steps.

Riley’s eyes never left hers as she lowered herself into the water, her foot hitting the bottom of the pool, before she pushed off and swam a length. If she’d stayed there, just a few feet away from Riley, she knew she’d end up backing her up against the edge of the pool and kissing Riley. That would probably happen later, but Laura needed to cool things down for a second.
