In spite of their anxiety about whether they were in the past or present and why, the priority was food and shelter. There was an underground stream that bubbled up into a small pond near the oak trees - which would eventually become the source of water for the Longmead estate. In the future? In the past? Initially, the older servants were reluctant to venture beyond the meadow imagining the hound from the sketch appearing with every rustle and creak, but the stable boys had no such qualms, and gradually everyone overcame their fear.

The men and Eleanor constructed crude wooden shelters with branches and dry grass fronds. Mrs. Markham, Frederick’s nieces and the servants foraged beyond the meadow for greens, edible roots, mushrooms, berries and chestnuts while the stable boys caught fish in the pond. Using a sling shot, Samuel attempted to catch partridge and quail.

Nate wandered through the field with the baby in his arms. He sniffed the cooling scent of the bluebells and giddily twirled Cassie through the flowers. His sense of smell had sharpened after the birth and the pasture’s perfumes overwhelmed him.

Observing Frederick erecting a shack without his shirt sent a frisson of excitement through the omega. I wonder if something else is erect.

Nate giggled as he took furtive glances at his mate with sweat running over his broad shoulders and down into the waistband of his trousers. The omega ran a finger around his lips and imagined the alpha tearing the sweat-soaked garment from his hips and his swollen cock bounding out and teasing him. He yearned to have Frederick on top of him with his length plunging deep within him.

His lordship inhaled and squeezed his thighs together. It is too soon after the birth to be with Frederick, but I long to have his hands on me. The omega’s face burned just as the baby turned her attention to his face and gnawed at his nose. How can I be having these notions with Cassie beside me? I am a parent.

“Nate.”

Frederick’s face loomed above him, and the omega squirmed and held Cassie up as he attempted to divert the duke’s attention from his swollen dick.

“There you are.” The duke snuggled beside his mate and kissed Cassie.

“I am guilt-ridden that I cannot join you in your endeavors.” Not really. I am quite content to observe.

“Nate, you should be lying-in not gallivanting through the forest, under waterfalls and into the past.
