Chapter Eleven

London knew Evan and Elijah were communicating, but she wasn’t sure how. The air between them was nearly crackling with the power zinging back and forth. She’d seen her brothers do something similar but honestly, hadn’t paid much attention. Now, the scientist in her wondered if true telepathic communication was possible, leaving the woman standing between them out of the loop. Maybe I can learn to tap into their silent chit-chat. Bet that would be damned enlightening.

The kitchen Eli had led her to when she’d first arrived was so large, she’d wondered for a minute if they had an onsite restaurant. When they’d first entered the space, Evan must have seen her surprise because he’d leaned close and whispered a quick explanation against her ear. Evidently, this part of their home served as the hub for the entire pack, and most of their meals were eaten together as a group. He explained there was a smaller kitchen in their private suite of rooms, and she was starting to think she might need a map.

London’s brain-rattling realization she didn’t have a lab to work in felt like running head-first into a brick wall. What the hell was she going to do? She didn’t want to leave, but she didn’t see any other option… her work was too important to simply set it aside while she played slap and tickle with the Monroe brothers.

“This sucks big blue monkey balls. Just because I don’t want a bunch of big pharma jerk-offs getting their hands on my research, I’m going to be stuck dealing with my brothers. Damn and double damn, I finally get a chance to… well, to…” Craptastic. She’d started talking without thinking through what she was going to reveal—again. She hadn’t dated in high school, and she’d rarely gone out, even with a group, during college. The older she got, the more glaringly her inexperience showed.

Chewing on her lower lip and studying the floor as if it was the most interesting thing she’d ever seen, London wished she’d listened more to her sorority sisters chatter about their boyfriends and dates. At the time, it had seemed unimportant, but now, she could see how valuable it would be to know when to blurt out her feelings and when to play her hand closer to her chest.

“I’d love to know what she’s thinking.” She started at the sound of Evan’s voice. When had he moved so close? He was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Eli, the two of them watching her, mild amusement lighting their eyes.

“If she’s worried about a place to work, perhaps you should tell her how you spent a good portion of your morning.” Eli might have been speaking to Evan, but his eyes never left hers. “Dr. Monroe has been busy, Princess. His clinic was designed to accommodate what we all hope will be a growing pack population, so there are areas of the facility that aren’t currently being utilized.”

Evan’s smile made her breath catch. The man was movie star gorgeous—and it always caught her by surprise.
