Julian spent the last thirty minutes of Die Hard dreading the final five minutes. When they arrived, he barely noticed a single line of dialogue.

The credits finally began to roll, and David gave a sigh on the couch beside him, stretching, reaching up to rub his eyes.

"Have I taken up enough of your time yet?" he asked, with a smile.

No, Julian thought, feeling his stomach ache at once. Not nearly enough.

"It's been lovely having you here," he said. "Honestly. I've enjoyed every minute of it."

David's eyes glittered in the light of the tree. "D'you want a hand getting to bed?" he asked.

Julian hesitated, glancing down at his cushioned feet. Really, he was more than capable of getting there himself—some grappling with his crutches, some ungainly hopping, and he'd make it just fine.

But he wanted to touch, one last time.

It hurt a little, realising. Guilt lifted the colour in his cheeks. After every kindness he'd been shown today, he didn't quite know how he dared to feel so selfish. David was offering him medical assistance to get to his feet, not a cuddle, and it was wicked to accept one in search of the other.

Then, he thought, he's not here as a medical professional. Just as a neighbour. As a... friend.

"Would you just help me up from the couch?" he asked. He hoped the request didn't seem as transparent as it felt. "I should be okay from there."

David smiled. "Sure," he said, and shifted closer, nudging the coffee table aside with his knee to make some room.

Julian's heart began to pound.

"How're we doing this?" David asked. "Just like out of the car, d'you reckon?"

"That might be best," Julian said. I'm a wicked person, he thought. This is exploitative of me.

"Alright..." David leaned over the couch with a smile, lowering his upper body for Julian to hang onto. "Arms around my neck. Hold on tight."

Julian obeyed, wrapping his arms around those magnificent shoulders. The lack of coat made them even more sublime beneath his hands. The warmth of David's skin radiated through his jumper, and his muscles were firm and solid underneath, softened with a comforting layer of padding. He smelled of amaretto and Chinese food. He was sublime.

Oh god, don't go. I don't want you to go.

An arm encircled Julian's back to support him, utterly gentle, one large hand splayed at the base of his spine. David braced his other hand against the arm of the sofa, ready to lift, and Julian closed his eyes. It felt so much like an embrace that it hurt.

"On three?" David rumbled, in his ear.

Julian urgently suppressed a shiver. "Yes," he managed, dry-mouthed. "On three."

"Right..." David held him a little tighter, preparing to take his weight. "One," he murmured. "Two..."

As Julian braced for three, David gently tilted his head.

He pressed his lips to Julian's.
