Chapter 7
The Castle
They had been driving for hours. Eleze felt tired and had no idea where they were going. She tried not to allow the strange way in which they had crept out of Bromsberrow to alarm her too much. Edrick had not told her anything since they left their house, and as much as she wanted to know what was happening, for the moment, she had enough trust in him to allow things to just go on the way they were.
Thanks for not asking questions, Edrick thought as he read her mind.
I trust you. I donât care where we are going, all that matters to me is that Iâm with you, Eleze thought silently, as if she had heard his quiet thoughts. Edrick smiled at her, content she was there and grateful that she placed so much trust in him. While he drove with one hand, he pulled her closer to him with his free arm and embraced her protectively, sealing the promise that they belonged to each other forever. Eleze and Edrick were now married. Edrick had proposed a little while back. Eleze was sure of nothing more than that she wanted to be married to this man, who meant everything in the world to her. But because of her mysterious illness, she was reluctant to put him through the agony of an uncertain future with the strong possibility of pain and suffering. I know you feel the same.â He meant that literally; he knew exactly how Eleze felt, with her generous heart. That she loved him unconditionally, from the depth of her soul, brought him indescribable joy that he felt in every cell of his being.
âWhatever comes our way, weâll face it together,â he told her, convinced that their lives were no longer their own, but a unit within the universe, with paths intertwined and bound together by an unbreakable force.
Eventually, Eleze said yes. She didnât want an elaborate wedding; just a small, simple ceremony with family and a very few friends, held in the ballroom of the Lailokensâ mansion in Bromsberrow. Livia managed, on short notice, and against Elezeâs wish to cause no trouble, to have it beautifully decorated. The flowers and exquisite candelabras offered a serene setting for the nuptials.
Callix, who of course cried during the ceremony, had fixed Elezeâs hair, leaving it down and flowing, crowned by a tiara embellished with a few delicate aquamarine stones and orange blossoms. âYou are my masterpiece!â Callix said emotionally when he was done with her hair and makeup. Her ivory gown, which Livia luckily found on short notice through some connections,
