Chapter Four

That woman was touching him. The sickening brush of her lips and the sharp trail left by her nails turned his stomach. It had been degrading enough when Allison had demanded him to strip off his shirt and lay back on the table. She pulled his shoes away and worked her way up his legs to the fly of his jeans. As one hand scratched and tickled his chest the other fumbled with the button and sipper.

Allison didn’t even bother trying to pull his pants away. She just opened them and continued her rotten way upward, over his bare chest. Malcolm knew she was trying to turn him on with the way her hips moved over his, with her rubbing herself all over him, he was feeling a new level of disgust. It coursed through him, from his clenched teeth to his fisted hands and down his tense legs. Malcolm wanted her off of him.

And Allison knew it.

Her teeth bit into his flesh and her claws dug a little deeper. “You’re supposed to adore me. Why don’t you want me?” she demanded, lifting herself from his chest.

Malcolm flexed his fingers, curling them out and fisting them again. “It doesn’t work that way,” he growled. There was some relief knowing that at least his thoughts and words were still his own.

A crack sounded through the large room and a sharp sting spread over half his face when she slapped him. “It should work that way,” Allison hissed, pulling herself away from him. “Damn Blackwoods. Probably impatient just like your brother.”

Malcolm didn’t argue with her. The levels of disgust he felt had left his little buddy flaccid and that was more than fine by him. At least there was one thing Allison wanted that she wouldn’t be getting.

“That spell should have worked,” she grumbled as she started pacing across the stone floor. She was biting the tip of her thumb as she tried to work through the problem.

Sitting up, Malcolm refastened his jeans and dropped his face into the palms of his hands and waited. If she just dismissed him or left him alone he was sure he could go search for Meredith. The enthrallment spell relied on Allison’s orders. Without any, he was free to do what he wanted as long as it wouldn’t hurt Allison, but if he could find Meredith he could give her as much magic as she needed to fight off Allison.

“Get up,” the witch demanded. Doing as she said, Malcolm stood and waited. “Take me to your family’s book of shadows. I know you have a spell to break the connection between this turtle and the Blackburns.”

Watching her pace as she turned the old turtle shell over in her hands, Malcolm wanted to tell her it wouldn’t work. Everything had to be just right for the connection to be broken, but she was offering an opening that he could use. The book was with the rest of his tools.

Glancing around the large room, Malcolm said, “I’ll need a candle and a moment.
