Jared knew it was morning, despite refusing to open his eyes. Absolutely no way in hell. Nothing on God’s green earth could possibly make him pry them open to face the pain awaiting because of the mother of all hangovers.

“Hey, Jared, I have some painkillers and orange juice if you feel like trying to wake up,” Colin said tenderly as he stroked Jared’s forehead and cheek.

Jared’s eyes popped open, watering immediately at the bright light, which actually wasn’t that bright considering the light-filtering drapes in his bedroom. It just seemed like the sun was pulling a supernova in his room, but he didn’t seem to care after all. He took the offered pills and drink gratefully. “I was afraid that I had hallucinated you being here.” Jared tried for levity. “You probably wish I was. I’m sure I’m not a pretty sight right now.” He made a face as the orange juice not only didn’t disguise the taste of dead skunk in his mouth, it made it acutely worse.

Colin smirked. “I would assume that look is for the rancid fungus growing in your mouth?”

Oh, that visual was not helping. “I would assume that is the delightful aftertaste from my throwing up everything I’ve ever eaten since I was three years old? Or maybe that didn’t happen. Did I just die and spend hours in hell?” He kept his expression as neutral as he could but he was just drinking Colin in. So far, this was the best morning after—ever. After drinking that is.

Huh, come to think of it, it was better than the other kind too.

But, hell, why was Colin here?

The last thing he remembered was thinking I might as well have another— for about the millionth time. He wondered if he had any liquor left in his house. From the sheer amount of pain in his pounding head, he didn’t think so.

Resisting the urge to shake his head to clear it, he took another sip. “How did you get here?” He hastily added, “Not that I’m unhappy you are. But I thought you were spending the evening with Emily and Landon?”

Colin chuckled, “Yeah, but thanks to an absolutely hilarious drunk dial on your part to your now traumatized brother-in-law, well, I was called in as the emergency responder.”

“Do I even want to ask?”

Colin’s grin widened. “Let’s just say you thought he was me.”

Jared winced. “I guess it could’ve been worse. I could’ve called Lily…or, God forbid, my mother.” Jared’s whole body shuddered at that thought. Then the reason for his binge snapped back to the forefront of his mind. “It was a bad day yesterday.”

Colin pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead. “We’ll talk when you want to but you need to shower and bleach your mouth first.”

Jared started to nod his agreement but his memories of last night trickled through. His lack of anything resembling good aim unless Colin was holding his head being the most prominent. His feelings of embarrassed horror must have been obvious as he dropped his head.
