I HATE TO LOSE.

I know, I’m supposed to get fucked up the ass, right? Someone needs to show up and kill me because I’m a dick. Well, screw that.

But someone sure as fuck came close and I was not only pained by the event, but insulted too.

It started when I ran into a problem...

My guys in Vegas who were supposed to show up to take Mera’s truck and the other vehicle bailed on me. Even when I offered to pay triple the normal amount, they still said no. It was too risky, especially in Mera’s Datsun, which they thought would break down on the road. They gave me suggestions for other guys, but I won’t call someone I haven’t worked with, not for a job like this. So I decided to drive the fucking things myself... with my son, like a father-son bonding activity. And yeah, I had to pay the little shit five grand to come out and do it, the same amount as a pick-up and drive-off in Vegas would’ve cost.

I thought it would be good for our relationship, just the two of us, driving one behind the other on the open road, stopping for lunch and staying overnight in Vegas, taking a look at our old neighborhood, maybe doing a drive past my dad’s former mansion. I haven’t had an opportunity to spend time with my son in years. It was a grand solution to both problems.

Plus, I worked for my father and Jack can do some work for me now and again. Why the fuck not? He can earn the money he keeps asking for, just like I earned mine. No handouts. Do a job, get paid, and spend time with your dad.

But hell, when I told Jules my plan, her body language changed from love to wanting to beat the shit out of me. Partly because she found out about the trip when my son showed up at my door.
