Two brothers took their journey with their mother with difficulty. The brother was Liu Zhiyuan, while his younger brother was Liu Zhichong; they grew up and hung on together. Liu Zhiyuan had already grown up and was the master of the family, while the younger brother was only 8 or 9 years old and naughty and naive.

[Gancaozi] In the native town, his father was an official, heroic and powerful. His name was Guangting and was defeated and died in the battle. For the disintegration of their family, they decided to leave their hometown and went to the south to make a living. Their clothes were thin and they were cold. [Wei] The two brothers had two different fates. Zhichong retired to Hedong and became an enlightened sage, while Zhiyuan became Emperor Gaozu of the Han dynasty, a fortunate dragon hidden in the deep waters.

History of the Five Dynasties told the stories of Liu Bang, Emperor Gaozu of the Han dynasty. His family name was Liu, and because his name Zhiyuan was tabooed, he was renamed Gao after he was enthroned. His ancestor was a Shatuo person. His father’s name was Guangting, who was defeated and died in the battle. Then, they distributed their wealth to others and went with his mother and younger brother Zhichong to Taiyuan for a living. There was a man named Murong Dalang at Liubao village in Yangpan, who took their mother as his step wife, and she bore 2 other sons named Yanchao and Yanjin. When Zhiyuan grew up, he was not harmonious with his younger brothers. Thus, Zhiyuan wanted to leave the village and live in another place. However, he had no money for his journey.
