Chapter 6

Sara Snow had reached her limit with Vice Principal Jones. When she had a break between counseling sessions she stormed to the dean’s office. She needed to get some stuff off her chest so she could focus on the students. Sara had done everything in her power to either reason with or ignore Jones, but none of that had worked.

Sara ran right by the dean’s secretary who was now used to being ignored and didn’t even try to stop her from barging into her boss’s office. The dean was reading a copy of the school paper that was about to go to press. He sat up when she entered and gave her his undivided attention. “What’s wrong, angel? You look disturbed.”

“I swear! I can’t take her anymore. She is completely out of control. You have to do something about her.”

Of course the dean knew exactly who she was talking about. “What has she done now?”

“She wants to sit in on my counseling sessions. I told her that would be impossible because it’s just supposed to be me and the kids. They trust me. I’ve built a bond with them. They’re not going to open up to me with her in the room. They hate her by the way. I’m not just saying that. They all tell me.”

The dean moved from behind his desk and sat behind Sara, taking her trembling hand into his. She loved the way he helped her calm down. “Anyway, I thought I came up with a nice compromise. I would record the sessions with the student’s permission and then she could listen to them later.”

The dean nodded. “That sounds like a good idea.”

“That’s exactly what I thought, but no, that wasn’t good enough for her, she actually had to be in the room. I had a counseling session with a kid who is going through a really hard time at home and he wouldn’t say a word because she was there. That defeats the whole purpose of what I’m doing. Then after the kid leaves, she totally berates and screams at me so loudly that the rest of the office staff could hear. It was completely humiliating.”

“What was she screaming about?” the dean asked.

“Get this. She says I’m a horrible counselor because I couldn’t get the student to open up. Are you fucking kidding me? It was her fault the kid wouldn’t open up, not mine. If she weren’t there everything would have gone just fine but she wants to blame it on me?”

The dean squeezed Sara’s hand. “I am so sorry this is happening to you. I thought I told Presley to handle this. What the hell has he been doing?”

Sara knew exactly what he had been doing—banging Marcia, but she didn’t like to think about that. “I doubt Presley is going to go out of his way to help me. He’s still sore about our break up.”

“That doesn’t matter,” the dean snapped. “He still needs to do his job which is to get Jones to stop harassing you.
