Was my brother right?

Was I really fucking Jayden up? Was I really turning him into the same monster that he was once rumored to be?

I sighed as I ran my hands down my face. I glared down at the duffel bag on my bedroom floor, filled with the clothes and other necessities I would need if I decided to do this - if I decided to leave the Reapers once and for all, leave Jayden behind.

Could I really bring myself to leave him, though?

I had to. I couldn’t bring myself to ruin Jayden, no matter how much I loved him. He had worked so hard to leave behind all the shit that had almost ruined him. I wouldn’t allow him to throw all of his progress away.

With a heavy sigh, I got up from my bed and snatched my duffel bag up, carrying it with me as I walked down the hallway toward the bar room. Jackson looked up as I walked into the main room of the clubhouse, and he shook his head at me. “You’re making a really dumb decision, girly.” He told me as he put his phone in his pocket, regarding me with an unreadable expression.

I swallowed down the lump in my throat, forcing back my tears. “Jackson, I have to do this for him,” I said softly. “I can’t let myself ruin him any more than I already have.”

Jackson shook his head at me. “Your brother has never been in love, so he doesn’t understand what Jayden is feeling right now,” Jackson told me, trying his best to talk some sense into me so I wouldn’t leave. But I wouldn’t let his talk deter me. “Jayden is the perfect image of a man wanting to do nothing more than protect his woman when the world seems to be against him. If you leave him now, you don’t realize the monster you’ll unleash. You are the only person capable of reining in the beast inside of him.”

I heard a door down the hall slam shut, and I swallowed hard, knowing Jayden was coming out of his room. I had hoped to be gone before he appeared. I knew it was cowardly, but I couldn’t face him.

I knew the instant Jayden stepped into the room. Silence fell over the bar room as everyone focused their attention on the quivering mass of rage that Jayden had become. “Where the fuck do you think you’re going?” Jayden demanded angrily.

I swallowed hard as I stared down at the floor in front of me. I couldn’t face him. I took a deep breath, forcing myself to do this. I had to do this for him. I couldn’t be his downfall. “I’m leaving,” I told him, keeping my back to him.

“Like hell you are.” He snarled behind me.

“Jayden, I’m leaving you and all of this shit behind,” I told him as I strode toward the door. I couldn’t look at him right now, not when I knew I was not only ripping my own heart out of my chest but his, too.
