Luckily, Faith discovered, early the following day, Zach had decided on a similar gung-ho attitude. They could do this, she reassured herself boldly. Together, she and Zach could manage anything if they set their minds to it. They had proved that by quickly coming to agreement about Quinn, getting through their first court date and surviving a wedding and wedding night that had fast gotten out of control...

Not that her new husband made reference to their wildly passionate lovemaking the night before. No, this morning he had behaved as casually as if it had never happened. Focusing instead on the minutia of daily life.

“I say we do it now,” Zach announced as the clock hit ten.

“Do what?” Faith cuddled Quinn close, while Tinkerbelle curled up on the sofa beside her. Both had been dropped off by Emma a short while earlier, and now they had the whole weekend stretching ahead of them.

With the plain gold band, which matched the one adorning her ring finger, gleaming on his left hand, Zach continued looking at her half-decorated home. The garlands and wreaths, Christmas village and Advent calendars were up, but there was still more to be done.

Thumbs hooked through the loops on either side of his belt, he turned back to her. He shifted, his big body exuding warmth in the closed space, and she shivered despite herself. “We need a tree,” he informed her.

She blinked. “Today?”

He flashed that sexy smile that made her weak in the knees, and as he dropped down next to her on the sofa, she found herself leaning closer to catch a whiff of his mint-flavored toothpaste. “Have anything else better to do?” he drawled.

Lord, he was going to be hard to resist. Especially now that she knew how fabulously he made love. Swallowing to ease the parched feeling in her throat, she said, “Um. Well...” She hesitated, watching as Quinn reached out for his daddy with both hands, babbling happily all the while. “I usually do my errands on Saturdays.”

Zach held out his hands, and Quinn lurched into them. He chuckled as the little tyke snuggled happily against his broad chest, then turned back to Faith with a grin. “We could work that in, too.”

We.

She savored the word.

He was really working on this married-couple thing.

Something else that would be oh, so easy to get used to, then hard to do without...

Not that she was going to let herself depend on him. The way she had depended on a soldier who wasn’t going to be there most of the time, in the past...only to have it all end in heartbreak when Harm tragically died... She’d had to pick up the pieces once, when her life had all blown apart. She didn’t want to have to do that again. And the way to making sure that she would not have to was by keeping things casual. Not letting herself depend on him too much. Working together and being a team when it came to Quinn... Maybe even hanging out as friends or making love when the time was right.
