Chapter 6

Soul Smith

As Gore staggered out, his legs heavy as if the weight of his deeds bore down upon him, he surveyed the desolation he had wrought upon Morgar. The magnitude of his actions hit him like a relentless storm. "What… what have I done?" Gore fell to his knees, surrendering to the exhaustion of his physical wounds and the emotional toll of his ruthless actions. "Better savour this, kid! I know I will! That was a work of art—beautiful, and you even finished it off with a nice finale! Boom! Haha! You even killed women and children! Haha! Didn't you know there were people in need of saving still? If they couldn’t protect themselves, Gore, they don’t deserve to walk this earth. The weak die out and the strong prevail. Why dwell on something you can’t change? They’re bugs, waiting to be squashed." Goredus erupted into hysterical laughter, revelling in the brutality.

Amidst the echoes of Goredus's maniacal laughter, Gore stared intently at the crater he had created, reflecting on the innocent lives he disintegrated. The fiends he felled were disregarded, the collateral damage now haunting him. "Look at what I have done!" Gore became consumed with concern for himself, questioning if the rage had swallowed him whole. He glanced down at his worn hands, stained with the blood of those he had slain. "I don't believe innocent people were killed by my hands. There's not a chance! Please! It can't be true!" he yelled, trembling with disbelief. His statement lacked confidence, and a haunting uncertainty lingered.

Even with the slight relief that Tycus had perished, it did not bring Frey back. Her body was believed to be pulverized along with the rest. "You killed them all, Gore, but at what cost? Oh, and trust me, there were women and children among those that you just killed in cold blood! Haha! It's quite entertaining, this is," said Goredus, rejoicing in the chaos.

Gore, still in shock and grievously wounded, struggled to grasp the true extent of the events that had unfolded. "No! I don't believe it!"

"Oh, would you just shut up? Who cares anyway? They were born to die." Goredus's callous words echoed through the abyss of Gore's shattered morality.

A lethargic, bright beacon advanced slowly towards Gore, its radiance blinding, akin to staring into the heart of the sun. Still clutching his battered body, he bore wounds that whispered of impending death if left untreated. "Am I hallucinating? What is that…?" Gore muttered through coughs, blood staining his lips as he staggered in its direction.

Portals materialized around him, scattering far and wide within the remnants of Morgar that had escaped destruction. One portal, positioned dangerously close, beckoned to Gore. Despite the overwhelming urge to succumb to the wounds, he fought to keep his eyes open and his body in motion.

Within the portal, an inferno of bright blue flames roared, its intense heat palpable even at a distance. "The forge of the Soul smith, my brother, Mordis," Goredus uttered, an unusual lack of mockery in his tone.
