It was almost too easy. He put the padlock on the storage space and drove back out the main entrance waving again casually at the guard. He didn’t care if the guy saw his face. He was never coming back here again.

Right after the dark-haired woman had messaged him, he received another message from MagnusOpus. Night Fall had deposited more than two hundred bitcoin into his account. More than two million dollars. It was a down payment. MagnusOpus said a fake ID along with a ticket to Los Angeles would be waiting in a locker at the train station. Number seventy-six. From there, he’d catch a plane to anywhere he wanted to go.

But he had one last job to do.

They told him to forget about Charlie. There was a bigger threat. A kid in the Tenderloin who’d hacked his computer. He’d taken off immediately. He’d left the girl alive. Just in case the dark-haired woman had planned on keeping her word—the girl’s life in exchange for her destroying the file that would expose them all.

Just in case.

Right now, he hoped none of that would matter. With a new ID and the money Night Fall had promised, he could simply disappear.

He only had to do one thing before the ID was deposited in the locker. Kill the kid in the Tenderloin. MagnusOpus said he’d pay him another three million dollars in bitcoin when the job was done. Best money he’d made in his life. He would still crave his life as a hit man, but he could be more selective about which jobs he took.

Only one thing stood between him and this freedom. The kid.
