He wasn’t going to understand this, and Joe wasn’t sure he could adequately explain it to him. He had broken a pack law, one that could not be brushed under the carpet. Even if he wanted to, Roger would never let him.

Roger was a pain in his ass and had been since Joe had become the pack enforcer. Roger had wanted the position and felt that Joe had gotten it only because he was the alpha’s son. The truth was that Roger didn’t have the temperament for the job. He saw it more as a power position and not a duty to his pack.

It didn’t help that Roger was jealous of Joe finding his mate. Or maybe he was just jealous because of who his mate was. Nate was a gorgeous man. Roger was the type of man who would respond to that.

As much as he felt the enforcer position was one of power, he would want the perfect mate on his arm.

Joe knew that Roger was just as gay as he was. They had almost fooled around once, many years ago. It was one of the main reasons Roger was so furious with him. Joe had been attracted to Roger for a brief amount of time but had decided he didn’t want to get involved with him after one kiss. Roger just wasn’t for him.

Roger hadn’t taken it well. He hadn’t really been interested in Joe as a person. He had wanted the prestige that went along with dating the alpha’s oldest son. Joe had quickly figured that out and dropped him like a hot rock.

After that, Roger had done everything he could to make Joe’s life miserable, including refusing to drop the charges against Nate for assault. Now, Joe would have to pay for Nate’s crime.

There really was no other way. His little mate was too fragile to take the punishment required to meet the demands of this type of crime. He would be horribly injured, maybe even scarred for life. Joe couldn’t let that happen. It was his duty to protect his mate at all costs, even from this.

Joe walked into the living room, making sure the front door was locked before heading upstairs. He had a little less than two hours Full Moon Mating

with Nate before he had to leave, and he didn’t plan on spending it downstairs in his office. He preferred to spend it upstairs with his mate.

He shook his head when he got upstairs and saw the closed door.

That obviously meant that Nate wasn’t happy with him. Talk about passive-aggressive behavior. Well, one closed door wasn’t going to stop him.

Neither is a locked door, Joe thought as he grabbed the handle and tried to turn it. Stepping back, he raised his foot and used it to kick in the door. He watched the door slam back against the wall. Nate jumped up from where he had been sleeping and looking towards the door in alarm.

Joe walked into the room, his eyebrow raised as he looked at Nate, daring him to refuse him entry.
