Chapter 8
“Ricky.” Gina smiled as she limped her way to the bed. She carefully sat on the edge, careful not to disturb Justin. “I’d like to say that it’s nice to see you, but we both know that is a lie. Especially with the way you treated us the last time we met face to face.”
“I can explain.” Ricky stared at her. “You need help. I can see it in your eyes that you need help.”
“And why would I turn to you.” Gina coughed a couple times. Deciding she could ignore Ricky for a moment. There was something more important she needed to tend to. “I hate to do this in front of you, but I do need something to help me heal.”
Andrea nodded with understanding. There had been a few times when she had nursed her friend back to health. Finally she could accept it was what the vampire really was, her friend. She slowly made her way over to the small refrigerator. She pulled out a glass container. Its contents were dark red. “Would you like me to heat it up for you?”
Gina smiled. “No. That’s fine. I just need to regain my strength so I can continue healing.” Her eyes found Ricky’s. “The faster the better.” Her attention returned to Andrea. She watched as Andrea slowly made her way toward her. “This is sorta like old times. But not the good ones.”
“You have been hurt pretty bad. On more than one occasion.” Andrea could not help but smile. There had been a time when the two of them doing these simple things would have been taken for granted. But after all the chaos The Company had brought into all of their lives, nothing was simple anymore.
Alicia watched her girlfriend carefully. In that moment, with those words said, the bond between Andrea and Gina had been restored. Maybe not to what it had been and most likely it was irreparably damaged. But it was there. And it brought a smile to her face.
“After we get you patched up, are we going with my plan?” Andrea looked at Ricky before continuing. “And what about him? Are we really going to try and trust him?”
Gina eyed the other vampire carefully for a few minutes. She slowly drank the cold pig’s blood that she always kept on hand. It would have been better if the blood had been warm. It would have even been better coming from a human. Since she had lost so much blood, she needed all she could get any way she could.
“Gina?” Samuel’s deep voice broke the silence that had descended upon them. He was still so unsure of the female vampire. It had really appeared that she had changed. And he was hoping that she had. There were his other feelings to consider as well.
Finally, Gina’s eyes came back into focus. “We have no choice, I’m afraid.” She swallowed the rest of the contents of the jar. “That will do for now. When we leave, we will need to take some with us.
