CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

I blink my eyes open and reach up for my bedside lamp, only to find it missing. Confused, I feel around to find my phone on the nightstand and tap the screen to check what time it is. It’s still dark in my room with a bit of moonlight streaming in through the windows, so I know I haven’t been asleep for very long.

The time on my phone reads 3:43 a.m. I let out a sigh and place my phone back on the nightstand.

Now that I’m slightly more awake, I realize there’s an arm draped around my waist. Thinking it’s Meg’s, I reach down to throw her off of me so I can slip out of bed. However, when I grip the hand, I realize it’s a much larger, rough, manly feeling hand and I notice the arm is much heavier on me than Meg’s should be.

My heart jackhammers in my chest from slight panic as I turn my face slightly. I relax a fraction when I find Preston snoring lightly next to me. It’s then realize I have no idea how he ended up in my bed, and I quickly check to make sure I’m wearing clothes.

Shirt? Buttoned. Shorts? Still on.

I wiggle my hips slightly to check if there’s any feeling of soreness between my thighs that might indicate we had sex, and release a held breath when I don’t feel anything. Judging by how thick Preston’s dick felt in my hand earlier, I would definitely be able to tell if anything had happened.

Gently lifting Preston’s heavy arm off of me, I carefully slide out from under him. I stand next to the bed, admiring his giant sleeping form taking up most of the space, and smile to myself.

I don’t know why, but I’m filled with a sense of comfort at seeing him sleeping there so soundly. That’s when I notice he’s on top of the covers—which are a tangled mess—and he’s fully clothed. He even still has his shoes on.

Okay, good. Now I know for sure nothing happened.

I cross the room to my door and slip out, quietly closing it behind me. I know Meg has to be here still, so I walk out to the living room to find her fast asleep on my couch, cuddled up with her favorite blanket of mine.

Needing to relieve my overly full bladder, I walk back down the hall to the bathroom and take care of business before heading to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I pause when I see the empty beer bottles on the kitchen table, and look at them in confusion.

“We bonded over a beer,” Meg says from the couch, startling me half to death.

I gasp and place a hand over my racing heart as she flicks on the lamp next to the couch.

“You bonded, or you threatened him over a beer?” I ask, knowing it’s more likely the latter.

“Okay, so sue me for being a little overprotective of my best friend.” Meg rolls her eyes as I walk over to the couch and she sits up a little, making room for me to sit.
