Six rounds of pinball—he won four—and two rounds of basketball—he won both.

I glanced at my phone to check the time. It had been two hours and I cringed, but I knew I was good at skeeball. It was the one place I could beat him and as he begged me, dangling his obnoxious string of tickets in my face, I finally caved.

“Fine.” I held up my finger. “But only one game, then we’re out of here… alone, apart, never to mention this again.”

Dillon cackled and rubbed his hands together, then rushed over to the machine. He dumped a token into the slot and the machine lit up, red balls rolling down the chute.

I stood beside him and watched as he racked up a ridiculous score. I shook my head.

“How the hell did you do that?” I asked.

He grinned. “I’m that good, that’s how.”

When it was my turn, I did my best but barely edged him out to win. I mocked him by flinging my hands into the air and dancing around him.

“Who’s your daddy now, Dillon?” I asked as I gyrated my hips around. “Admit your defeat at my hands!”

When he said nothing, I looked at him and my laughter fell to a near silent huff.

His eyes shifted as he watched my hips sway and my body stung at the way he stared at me. He stepped forward to take my hand in his, then lowered into a mock bow in front of me.

“You are indeed the Queen of the Arcade.” He looked up at me, still staring at me in a way that lit my panties on fire.

I tried to laugh it off, but I wanted to kiss him.

I desperately wanted to taste his lips.

I swallowed, saying nothing.

He stood so close to me that I could feel the warmth radiate from his body and the way his muscles tensed as he wrapped his arm around my waist. Possessively. He held me close and guided me from the arcade.

I needed to pull away from him and run in the opposite direction, but I liked feeling like I belonged to him. It felt good to have him want me as much as I wanted him, so I let it happen.

He led me outside to the park where a bunch of children were playing. Suddenly, there was a thundering boom and rain poured down soaking us to the bone. I shrieked and covered my head as Dillon tilted his head back to stare up at the rain.

There was a quaint gazebo with benches, and we rushed over to it.

I laughed as I pushed the wet hair from my face, then noticed he was watching me with that same look from earlier, like he wanted to kiss me.

And there was nothing more that I wanted than to kiss him, but he took my hand and drew a small heart on my palm. I shivered under his touch as he clasped my hand in his as if he didn’t want to let go.

“I wish things could’ve been different,” I admitted and shut my eyes.
