James Carterâs death held a special place in my heart. Whenever I could grab a quiet moment alone, I closed my eyes and reminisced the whole thing. It was short, but that was okay.
It reminded me a lot of when I lost my virginity to my high-school crush, Daniel Lewis. We had been eyeing each other for a long time, and then one day, he asked me out on a date. The whole school knew that we liked each other and it was pretty much only a matter of time until he asked me out.
Hell, I would have taken the preemptive step, but I didnât want any rumors about me to circulate the school. Daniel and I ended up dating for about eight months, and I slept with him half a year into our relationship.
I was madly in love with him, and thatâs what caused my first sex to be so intense. It was slow, it was passionate, and it was forming a connection with Daniel on a deeper level (no pun intended).
For a week after our first time, I found my mind wandering toward the intercourse. I wanted to keep it in my memory forever, but just like with all things, it soon faded. I read somewhere once that when we remember something, we actually remember the last time we remembered it, and thatâs why it fades from our memory.
Daniel and I had made love many more times before I realized I no longer loved him and broke up with him. I have no idea how the sudden transition occurred; it just did. One moment, I was willing to give my life for him, and in the next, sleeping with him felt like a chore.
He was devastated. We were at the park when I dumped him, and he cried like a river. I wanted to go, but I also didnât want to be rude and just dump him and leave. Truthfully, I felt embarrassed by the stares of the passersby.
I saw Daniel in school here and there after that, but we never even said hi to each other. I knew for a fact that he was devastated, and I felt bad for leaving him the way I did, but I couldnât stay with him just because I wanted to avoid hurting his feelings, right?
Either way, I also learned things in that relationship, especially things about myself: like that it takes me a long time to get attached to someone, but my emotions quickly become extinguished; and that I donât like it when I feel vastly superior to a partner, etc.
I would later learn that Daniel Lewis got engaged with, and later married, my high-school classmate Ann Edwards. They have two children now, and one of them has my name, which I learned from a Facebook post. Yikes. Guess some people never move on.
When I returned home the night I killed James Carter, Summer was in the kitchen, waiting for the microwave to heat the frozen pizza. She remarked something
