One day, Taurus asks me to accompany her to an appointment. As part of her preparation for the film, Taurus is asked to see a behavior coach, someone who helps actors immerse themselves into the characters they’re to portray.

Since the plot of the movie involves an abused woman, Taurus has to learn the psychology of women in abusive relationships. It’s a good thing she did advanced research before; she’s able to grasp their psyche quickly.

However, in one of the sessions, she has another breakdown. That night, I accompanied her back to her condominium unit.

She’s shaking, anxious and restless. She tells me that, during her session, she was reminded forcefully of the scandal, and the betrayal of her mentor. Her coach was able to calm her down, but decided they couldn’t resume the session now that Taurus was distracted.

I decide to make some lemon tea, so Taurus can ease the tension inside her. I leave her in the living room to prepare the drink.

As I heat up the water, I think the role will be a challenge for Taurus to play. I know she said she likes challenging roles, but this time, it’ll be different.

If she gets a relapse while having sessions with the behavior coach in mere preparation, who knows what will happen when they start filming?

In the middle of my thinking, I realize I’m worried for her wellbeing.

I finish mixing the drink, so I return to her in the living room. She’s still seated on the couch, looking calmer than earlier.

I hand her the glass. The moment our hands touch, I feel different. She looks at me, and I can tell the expression on her face mirrors mine.

My heart beats faster, as if I’ve just done the hundred-meter dash. With me worrying about her, and the fast beating of my heart, I suddenly feel the urge to wrap her in my arms.

I recover first. “You better drink it while it’s warm. It will help you calm down.” I glance at my wristwatch and use the lame excuse of, “It’s getting late.”

I grab my things and get out of the unit. As the elevator I’m on descends to the first floor, my heart is still pounding, and my brain tries to reason out what I just felt.

It’s all just friendly feelings, right? A friend is concerned about another friend. But, in the back of my mind, I know it isn’t as simple as that.
